Unit Theme Goldilocks
Week of January 26-29
MONDAY Intro new vocabulary (review vocab daily)
Follow the treasure map, finding vocabulary items along the way, until they find their way to the
3 Bears’ cottage.
TUESDAY We are learning about hierarchies: big, middle-sized, small (just right). We are finding different sized objects (chairs, pillows, towels) and placing them in the correct rooms of the 3 Bears’ cottage.
WEDNESDAY Our focus today is on sequencing. The children will follow the pages in a simple book about
how to make “porridge” and mix their own. Then they will be able to share a taste of cooked “porridge”.
THURSDAY Since the classroom is working on “porridge”, we are learning about foods and which ones go together and which ones don’t belong in the group. In Roz’s class we will decorate a picture of bowls of porridge, due to the number of food allergies in her room.
Unit Theme Valentines
Week of January 2-5
MONDAY Intro new vocabulary (review vocab daily)
After reviewing the vocabulary pictures the children will each get to pick a coloring page based on those words and color them in.
TUESDAY Matching: The children will each receive a bingo card and as the teacher pulls cards from the heart they will try to find a matching color on their board. If they have a match they get to put a token on it. Magic wands will be used to remove the tokens at the end.
WEDNESDAY Hierarchies: taking different sized paper hearts, glue and pipe cleaners, the children will each make a paper heart butterfly.
THURSDAY Language elicitation/conversation hearts: The children will ask for a specific color heart and a specific saying to go on the heart, then glue the saying onto the heart. They may do 3 hearts and either keep them separate or glue them all onto one sheet of paper.
Week of January 9-12
MONDAY Catagories: The children will take turns drawing out hearts and sorting them into like sizes (big, middle sized, small) and colors.
TUESDAY Following Directions: pick a heart and follow the directions on the back. Directions will be read aloud by the teacher.
WEDNESDAY Negatives: Take turns selecting a card and then spinning the spinner to see if your spinner will land on a color that is the same or is NOT the same.
THURSDAY Visual Closure: The children will use brushes to brush away rice on a cookie sheet to reveal parts of a valentine puzzle. Once all of the pieces have been found they will put the pieces together to make the puzzle.
