Vocabulary for the Fall unit will include:
leaves, apples, cold/crisp, jacket, wind, rake, pumpkin, squash, sweet potatoes, and nuts/squirrels
We will be focusing on the change of weather and the color changes in the trees. With cold/crisp weather, you need to wear a jacket, and all those falling leaves will need to be raked. But this is also the time to harvest those apples, and pumpkins, and other squash; and if you watch carefully, you may see the squirrels hiding nuts away for their winter food. People aren't the only creatures that do food storage. (hehe) Fall is the perfect season for sweet potatoes and all the yummy treats you can make from them. What ideas do you get when you think of Fall?
GREEN CIRCLE TABLE ACTIVITIES
Monday through Wednesday: Make a fall tree using colored tissue paper and water and paintbrushes. Apples could also be added to the trees.
Talk about Fall weather and how the air gets cold and crisp. We will be wearing jackets soon. Dress up George so he will be warm when he goes outside.
Focus on the letter sounds we have learned so far, and blend them together to make real and silly words.
Monday through Thursday: Look at nuts and seeds; make two piles and see if they have the same amount or different amounts; if different, which pile has more and which one has less?
Make pumpkin faces, talking about what feelings go with the different faces; do we have the same feelings? what do our faces look like when we are happy? sad? angry? tired? etc
Wednesday and Thursday the children will go on a nature walk around the school to look for changing colors in the trees; seed pods or nuts in the trees; are any squirrels running around trying to stock up on food? what does the air feel like? Do we need a jacket?
