April 22

After a delightful Spring Break, followed by a week with pneumonia, I am finally back and getting on top of things. Sorry for the lapse in information.

These last two weeks we have been learning about farm animals and last week the children took a field trip to see the baby animals at the American West Heritage Farm. The weather did not cooperate for the field trip but is making up for that this week. How nice it is to see the sun and feel the warmth and see everything beginning to grow and to green.

For the next two weeks we will be doing our Bug Unit. Now, I am not a fan of bugs so this is not my favorite unit. To make it easier to take, the green circle table activities will be focusing on the "pretty" bugs: butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies, fireflies, caterpillars, grasshoppers, bees, and crickets(not very pretty but not too yucky either).

We will focus on spatial concepts using a flannel board, sort bugs into groups, talk about the descriptive attributes of our bugs, make finger puppets, make a butterfly out of construction paper, count the dots on ladybugs, and make a caterpilar from circles with various patterns on them. We hope the kids will have fun.

After this unit we will have only three more units for this school year: zoo, weather, and the Hungry Caterpillar. Summer is almost here!
